Under the Night Skies Series

This series was created during my long stay at Pulau Ketam back in 2014. Where the first Pulau Ketam Art Festival was organize, it was also the first time I stayed on that island for so long. It made a long lasting impression on me. The landscape, the peacefulness and the beautiful locals who are kind at heart and very helpful with the art festival regardless they know not much about art. I made some amazing friends there too. These paper collage artworks are mainly inspired by the sky and clouds and the happenings at there. Whether it is during the day, night, twilights and so on. Each moment has their charms.

The I choose to use paper collage to create this series was because I was seeking to try environmental friendly materials, which I then cut out prints of patterns, yes I LOVE patterns on the fashion magazines, collected into difference colour categories and then assemble them into the colour mood I'm looking for.

In those artworks, some elements are added that I observe at the island, be it red lanterns, bicycles and small boats that are essentials to the local daily life. As it's an extremely small island, no cars are seen on the island, not to mentioned trying to drive a car!

Till this day, 10 years later, it is still a series that is deeply engraved in my heart. Some works are still available to purchase and well kept with my even after 10 years later.
